That Day

That day, one million tongues fell silent
We watched helplessly as the security, peace , safety and strength of our nation , were shattered
We were changed, just like the skyline of one of the largest cities in the world
As the debris fell, so did our arrogance, selfishness, and prejudices. THAT DAY
We learned about ourselves: our inner strength, our courage, our love for one another.
We were one race, one body, one mind
We were human. THAT DAY

A decade has gone by and have we forgotten?
The hand that extended as a beacon of light out of the darkness now draws back in violence
The look of hope and kindness, has now become a look of disdain and distrust
The one body that was created, now seems destroyed by racial and religious intolerance.

A few, driven by hatred and evil, set out to break us, destroy the very fabric of who we are.
Did they succeed?
Have we forgotten, THAT DAY?
